Governor Lee’s Office Now Accepting Applications for Fall Internships

Governor Bill Lee’s office announced on the Tennessee government website on Monday that its 2022 fall internship program is now accepting applications.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until August 12.

The program for successful applicants will begin on Wednesday, September 7.

According to a statement by intern adviser Melanie Passons, “The goal of the internship program at the State Capitol is to provide college students with an enriching work experience that promotes both citizenship and scholarship. Interns are assigned to work directly with the senior and support staff of each department inside the Governor’s Office.”

“Specific duties might consist of utilizing effective writing skills, researching current issues, assisting with and attending events, as well as various administrative activities within the departments,” she said.

Passons further noted that the “internship positions are unpaid, and applicants are required to receive college credit through their academic institution. All interns must report in-person to the Capitol to receive internship credit.”

The application can be found here and must be submitted along with a current resume and cover letter, two letters of recommendation, and a college transcript. The website says if any of those documents are missing with the application, that fact “will render your application incomplete and will not be considered.”

Additionally, only applicants with a minimum 2.5 GPA that are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors, or enrolled in a graduate program, will be considered.

One former intern told The Tennessee Star, “Interning with the Office of the Governor is a rewarding experience and is a great way to get your feet wet in government. It is a great learning experience and you really walk out of it with a deeper appreciation for the executive branch.”

Lee should apply for one of the internships. Maybe he would learn something about being a governor. He sure does not have the skills at this time.
